If you haven't seen the United penalty tonight then give it a watch, laugh yourself to death and then wonder at what point they killed football.

Ah it's that time of year again to complain about UEFA.

UEFA have (apparently) confirmed that LFC will get 12,000 tickets if they reach the Europa League final in Dublin on May 22.

Stadium holds 48,000.

So that's a major European final with only 24,000 allocated to the two teams who reach the final.

Absolute state of that Luton equaliser last night.

Yes James Trafford should be stronger and he is fully expecting the foul but the forward has no desire to win the ball, has his back to goal and clearly backs into him. Whether it's soft or not it's a foul 99% of the time.

PGMOL explanation- it was a coming together of two players. Utter nonsense.

Consistency in this league is appalling.

City v Liverpool moved to 12.30 after the next international break.

So glad to see it's evenly spread out.

Fingers crossed for Chris Basham of Sheffield United in his recovery but that's a properly bad one.

Given he's 35 that may well be that for the poor fella.

Let's just wish him well and hope he has a speedy recovery. Doesn't matter what team you support - you hate seeing anything like that.

If anybody would like to view one of the worst ref decisions of all time check out the red card given to Georges Mikautazde for Metz in their defeat by Rennes.

Some minor fronting up, they gently brush chests, oppo strike takes a tumble and the ref sends him off. VAR sends ref to have a look but Monsieur Ruddy Buquet decides to make it all about himself and sticks with his decision!

It's not a bad decision, it's a Ruddy awful one (I'll get my coat).

You can't help look at something like that and think what has happened to football.

If Klopp turns out to be a modern era shanks in terms of the way he turned the club around then we can only hope that Arne is the next Bob.

But how likely is that?

Well let's look at where we are. If we win our last three games that will leave us on 84 points (and I get that looks unlikely right now but go with me) . Unbelievably despite how dire this season appears to be ending that would be Klopp's fourth highest points total in his 9 year tenure.

Statistically 84 points would also be a very good performance historically. In the last 28 seasons (38 game seasons) 84 points would have won the league in 7 seasons. It would have seen you finish second in 21 of those years.

It would leave us 17 points better off than last year. City would only be 2 points better off and Arsenal 5 points better off.

Now I am as gutted as everybody else about how the season has panned out but I do believe when you look at it objectively Arne is picking the team up in quite a good place. Yes there are issues but compare it to the state of the club when Klopp took over. In Rodger's last full season we were 25 points behind the winner. In Klopps season we were 21 points behind. If we finish on 84 we would at most be 7 behind.

And we can all think of a list as long as our arm about things that could have gone better this year.

So given where we are, how close we are and how much room for improvement there is (both defensively and offensively) I think we have reason to be cautiously optimistic that Arne could take us to the next step.

"It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again. "

And the last three games have proved how right he was.

Last night was desperately disappointing.

We started exactly as we needed to. Quick movement, quick passing and aggressive. Trent in a wide position and we win a penalty. Brilliant, the early goal we needed. Now kick on. And the kick on never really came. Passing mistakes started to kill the flow and as the first half went on the lack of width and slow pace returned the threat we posed started to fizzle out and when Mo misses that chance, so does the game. Atalanta defenders could play the second half with their slippers on. Two shots in the second half simply isn't good enough when you need to stay in a competition.

This has been a magnificent era for the club but it really felt like the end of an era last night. Compare that performance to some of the greatest nights under Klopp and the difference couldn't be any more stark.

Until it's impossible I will still hold out hope he can do one more miraculous feat in dragging us to the title but right now the thought we can win six on the bounce, which we will almost certainly need, couldn't look any less likely.

Why does this season hurt because it's the hope that kills you. And why did we have the hope and belief? Why did we believe that a quad was on? A quad! Because a great manager turned us from doubters to believers. Because this squad had taken us places none of us really thought he were likely to reach, Whatever the reason for the drop off, we have six games left with one of our greatest ever managers. Let's just enjoy him being there.

A nice little stat that went largely unnoticed the other night. Robbo has now overtaken Trent again in terms of assists. Robbo now sits on 59, one more than Trent on 58.

The most assists of any defender and the joint 25th most assists in the premier league history overall.

Not a bad return for an £8 million signing.

That's the angriest I've been with a Liverpool performance for quite some time. Maybe it is just me but there was a degree of arrogance and complacency that set in during that second half I really don't like.

Firstly - yesterday proved how naive a lot of Thursday's team selection and / or substitutions were. We've spent the last few months entrusting a lot of the young lads and then we go super strong in a game we had effectively already won. I get some needed minutes but when you look at how leggy some got yesterday you just can't understand it.

As for yesterday we started poorly and could have been a few down, somehow we take a barely deserved lead into the break. Great stuff, we may have got away with one here.

Second half though was just ridiculous. United were so passive that there seemed a wave of arrogance and complacency that it didn't really matter if we misplaced this pass or screwed up that attack, because we've already got the lead and they can't do anything to us and we will get another chance in a minute anyway. Next to no intensity. If Liverpool showed 20% of the intensity they showed in that second half against City then United were there to have their tummy tickled in that second half. They could have destroyed them.

Then it was just really poor game management. Particularly for the last goal which was bordering on criminal naivety.

Klopp hasn't done himself any favours afterwards with that rather petulant interview with the Scandinavian reporter either.

Hopefully it's a lesson they can learn for the rest of the season.

“but we just look like we're out of ideas, ”

Not taking chances doesn’t equal no ideas.

If you want running out of ideas look at spurs, Everton and Norwich lately.
