So, the reason Frimpong was subbed off was due to feeling his hamstring.

To be honest, I thought he looked knackered by half time, as well. No surprise he felt discomfort in his hammy. With Bradley's inability to stay fit, I feel like the RB position is going to be our Achilles heel, moving forward.

I think we learned that playing Endo at right back is a recipe for disaster. He was having a mare until Gomez moved to his position and Endo moved to midfield. Only then did Endo's performance improve. Then again, Gomez did little better, but at least has familiarity with the role.

Outside of Jones and Szobo, not sure who can suitably cover in the event of Frimpong and Bradley being out.

Worrying.

Looks like Chelsea has started negotiations to sign Jorrel Hato from Ajax. First contact has been made, and apparently Hato is keen to get the move done.

Surprised we aren't going in for him ourselves, especially after we lost Quansah to Bayern Leverkusen. He seemed like the ideal profile, but clearly something has stopped us from going in for him. Could be readiness, suitability, who knows?

However, we do need a young centre back brought in, in addition to a more seasoned option, ala Guehi. Going into the next season with Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez and, potentially, Guehi is fine, quality wise, but not in terms of availability. Konate and Gomez pick up a lot of injuries, the latter for significant periods of time, also. I did think this would be Gomez's time to move on, but with the number of purchases and sales, it looks less and less likely.

Plus, would be ideal to have a young centre back now, in order for him to learn and develop from Van Dijk in training. Van Dijk will be here at least 2 years, and it would be a squandered opportunity to not have a young lad around at that point.

Will be interesting to see who we eventually sign in this role.

Pep Ljinders is in consideration to take over the assistant manager role at Man City. Now, that was not on my bingo card. If he does make the move, I think the rat emjoi's used for Trent would be far better place directed at Ljinders.

If anyone needs a good laugh, you should go out of your way to see the name Everton have decided for their new stadium.

It's called: The Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Like, who thought that was a good idea?

Fair to say that I have had a genuinely surreal day today.

I was helping to run a football camp, with the focus being junior football, when a special guest turned up, doing a 1 to 1 session on the senior football pitch right beside us. To cut a long story short, I had the pleasure of watching and talking to none other than Bryan Mbuemo. No idea why he was at our ground, but it was very eye opening.

Also, have to say, the level Prem footballers have is insane. I was watching Mbuemo do a number of combination/ finishing sessions, and the guy was hitting top bins and the side netting basically every time, from a variety of different angles. A great demonstration for my players, who saw a pro in action, as opposed to me :P

The guy didn't have to come over and introduce himself to my group of players, but he made a point to do so. He was even answering questions, taking pictures with each one individually then as a group, that included me and my coach as well. I was honestly expecting him to walk away when his 1 to 1 finished, but he apparently told the club owner that he wanted to come over and say hi. First rate guy, and I even managed to slip in a, "Would you consider joining Liverpool. " To which he just laughed.

Not Liverpool related, of course, but just wanted to share. We did previously have Michail Antonio come by, last year, to have a look around the facilities, but he wanted nothing to do with us or my group of players. Mbuemo, on the other hand, made a point to come over.

Top rate guy, and now want nothing more than for him to join Liverpool. Will probably be the one player I would refuse to slag off :P.

An interesting turn of events: Chiesa has been omitted from Liverpool's Champions League squad.

It looks like the choice of the final position was between Chiesa and Rio, and Slot opted for Rio instead. Really feel for Chiesa, he looks to have done everything right (in both attitude and performance) yet Slot still doesn't seem to value him.

Liverpool enter with a 22 man squad (Plus Danns, Bajcetic, etc, who do not have to be listed) . Due to UEFA rules, Rio is classified as non-home grown, so therefore takes one of those positions.

Considering the Champions League has been expanded, I am surprised there has not been an increase to player numbers. Then again, UEFA have no care for player welfare and simply desire more money.

Ahh, so Mac Allister didn't miss the Newcastle match due to the birth of his son.

Slot has just said Macca pulled up with something 2 days ago in training and doesn't know if he will be available for the Arsenal game. Fingers crossed he is able because we really missed him in midfield today, provides that bite and control we need.

Mad, mad match.

So pleased for Rio, I genuinely think the lad is ready to play a part this season. He might be 16 (Soon to be 17) but he has the mentality to play at this level, clearly.

Have to say, though, I am really concerned by what I have seen of Wirtz. For 100+ million I expected to see more. He looks so lightweight and slow, the Prem's tempo seems to have unsettled him, and he can't get into matches. Admittedly, I have seen very little in a Liverpool shirt, and less during his time in Germany. All I heard was word of mouth, that the guy was exceptional, a special talent. I just don't see it.

Hopefully wrong, but concerned to say the least.

On the subject of strikers, it appears our very own Darwin Nunez may very well be on the move, also.

Al Hilal have apparently made an offer for him. No mention of the fee in question, from what I can see, but looks like movement finally on this saga.

I know a few posters believe that this will be Nunez's season, that the head shaved Nunez means business, but I will honestly be thankful to see the back of him. He completely lost any faith I had in him when he decided to sulk and ignore Klopp when Klopp was giving his farewell speech in the dressing room.

Don't even get me started on his performances since he came here. A poor finisher, I can understand, but a player who doesn't try when brought on, I can not. Slot called him out for this on numerous occasions, and I am relieved that I was not the only one feeling this way.

For me, we clearly need a striker to ease the pressure off Ekitike because the lad will need time to develop and get used to the Prem. Rio looks ready to be an understudy to Gakpo at LW, but I can also understand bringing in a more ready made replacement in Fofana. Although, I do fear it will put an unnecessary blocker on Rio path into the first team.

Centre back, I have mentioned already, so won't bore you.

This season is going to be an interesting ride, to say the least. And the Newcastle match may very well turn into a first blood match at this rate. I can see Newcastle preparing to hack us down all throughout the match. Fingers crossed we have a strong referee (As if that even exists) .

Hugo Ekitike for 80 million is actually insane. Surely we are not humoring this. He's had one decent season in the German league, not even great, and his valuation has sky rocketed.

The striker pool is actually horrendous. How has football regressed so far, in terms of developing quality finishers? Is this a result of poor youth coaching, different requirements now for strikers, or does quality ebb and flow over time?

To me, Gyokeres appears to be the best option on the market, by far, but has his heart is set on Arsenal. Then, we have Ekitke, Sesko, Vlahovic, appearing available, but I don't even consider that minimal or incremental improvement on what we already have.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but if those are the options, I would rather wait and see who emerges in a season or two than spend 80 now. Keep Diaz, he has a contract that lasts for 2 years, and let it run out if needs be. Nunez, I would still sell as he doesn't have the qualities to make it here, both technically and mentally. Danns, loan out and then see how he fares. No issue bringing in a rotational striker, to tide things over, just no idea who that could be. Would love Mateta, and if the 35 million valuation is true, I would activate that.

Just my two thoughts, but, as you can tell, I am not at all enthused with the the idea of signing Ekitike. It would be a massive, massive mistake.
