There's been a lot of talk on here about Trent's positioning and I think both sides made some really good points (permanent midfield vs inverted full back) .

I think what's clear is Robertson sitting back more has allowed Trent to move into midfield earlier in our attacking transition. Whereas before Trent wouldn't usually drift inside until we had sustained possession the final 3rd, he is now drifting central as soon as we hold possession anywhere on the pitch.

My thoughts on this first and foremost is it has improved our capabilities playing out from the back. Previously this season it was quite easy to press our backline and cut off the out ball through the lines into midfield. That midfield overload as well as Robbo not running too far away, now means Trent is finding space in between the opposition midfield and attack almost every time. Nottingham Forest were the only team who managed to press us anything like effectively since this subtle tactical tweak. Even they couldn't sustain it beyond the hour mark though.

Defensively it's also made us more solid (at least in one way) . Whereas previously Trent and Robbo would both bomb forwards a leave Virgil/ Konate behind with just Fabinho to shield them, we're now seeing Robbo also left behind but with Fabinho and Trent to shield them. There's simply more cover. However, it would be remiss to not acknowledge that it has made us more fragile in another way. The change mid-season has clearly left especially Robbo and Konate confused. When we transition to the back 3 they're not quite getting their positioning right, but also they are both quite rash at times in terms of charging out to make a 50/ 50 challenge and then leaving a huge hole behind them. We saw this flaw brutally exposed against Spurs in particular. However it is a flaw that can arguably be worked on this summer. Whether that means replacing Robbo with a centre back in the bigger games or by simply coaching Robbo himself, who knows. But it's not something that can't be fixed in my opinion. Konate is still young and can learn.

Lastly we have to discuss the offensive improvement. On paper we should be weaker going forward without the width of Robbo and Trent (which has been a defining factor of this Klopp team for over 4 years) . However Trents vision in central areas has meant that just isn't the case. People will rightly talk about his assists he's racked up since the tactical tweak, but we should also show some appreciation for the passes he's fizzing in between the lines, primarily to Gakpo. He's taking the entire opposition midfield out the game on a regular basis and that is pegging teams back until they're so deep they can't get out. Having Trent and Robbo deeper has also given a new lease of life to Hendo and Jones. They are getting forward with far more purpose and are able to press more aggressively, safe in the knowledge there are enough players behind them to cover if the press is broken.

Overall, it's hard not to appreciate the advantages to this new role Trent and Robbo in particular, find themselves in. I think it is far from perfect right now and we've seen fragility in the Spurs and Forest games. But let's also remember we did actually win both of those games anyway because the sheer determinition and attacking overload was just too much in the end for both teams. I don't actually mind if we stick with this system or if we just fully convert Trent into a midfielder and find a new right back. I think both arguments were convincing. Trent will get more space as an inverted full back but Robertson will be able to get forward again if we go back to our old system. There really are pros a cons to both. Ultimately we all agree that we have to keep Trent in those central areas at least when we have possession. The risk is quite simply worth the reward.

Not Liverpool related. More football in general. Firstly, I hope Wesley Fofana makes a speedy recovery. Broken leg and dislocated ankle in a friendly! What a disgraceful tackle from that Fernando Nino bloke. He was blatantly taking it out on an opponent because his team were 3-0 down. He won't even get a ban with it being a friendly. Reminds me of when Larouci got crippled in pre-season by atrocious behaviour.

Not enough is done to protect players on the pitch from serious foul play, in my opinion. Stronger deterrents are needed. It's not my job to decide what that is, but when the maximum punishment is 3 games for ending someone's season/ career, you know it's no more than lip service. Sure Fofana will get an apology on Twitter though. That'll mean the world to him i'm sure 🙄.

Chris Kirkland has been named goalkeeper coach for the Liverpool ladies. Congratulations to him on his first job in coaching and good on him for respecting the ladies game!

Del Bosque, former Real Madrid manager, says that nobody in Liverpool's squad gets in Real Madrid's team.

Are they trying to fire us up deliberately?

7 out of 11 players for Man United today against Chelsea, signed for the club whilst Alex Ferguson was in charge. He retired 6 years ago (Sanchez, Pogba, Matic and Herrera the exceptions) .

Against Brighton, 7 out of 11 players for Liverpool signed for the club whilst Jurgen Klopp was in charge. He's been here 3 years (Lovren, Arnold, Henderson and Firmino the exceptions) .

Never underestimate the power of good recruitment. Klopp is taking us places 👍.

I'm absolutely gutted right now. To think that our season could be over by the end of this week, when only 6 weeks ago we had a legitimate chance at finishing the season with 4 trophies, is just sickening.

Feels like the players and Klopp all took their eye off the ball after that one crazy game against United in the FA Cup before the international break. I think sadly that game may have been the catalyst. The emotional bubble we were floating on after Klopp said he's leaving seems to have well and truly burst and nobody looks like they have the foggiest idea how to stop the downward spiral.

Tactics have been questionable for at least a couple of years admittedly ever since Lijnders took on more responsibility and we started down the road of this inverted full back that we then never signed the right left centre back to execute properly. We've gone behind in 21 out of 32 games this season so Robertson can come out and moan at the forwards if he wants but the back 4 has been an absolute disgrace at times. We're the top scorers in Europe in all competitions but going behind early every bloody time allows the opposition to park the bus and then closes out the space for our attackers and piles pressure on them to score.

I'm really pleased we got to share that moment with Klopp and the u21 lads who won the Carabao Cup final at least, because on the balance of his whole tenure, Klopp deserved to go out with some silverware this season. It's just a crying shame that we've ran out of steam for all the bigger trophies. I'm praying to Fowler that somehow we can find another famous European comeback on Thursday as that would be another beautiful moment if we turned it around and went on to win the trophy. I've not given up on that happening as we've come back from worse. However I honestly don't expect City and Arsenal to drop the points we need to win the league from here so I'm not even going to dare to dream of that. Europa League is still in our hands even though we need a miracle. One last dance please lads!

Title run in is going to be so exciting. The key games I can see twists in are the away fixtures against top 10 opposition. I think the home form of all 3 teams is strong enough to see off all comers, but on the road it's rearely easy in this league now.

Arsenal must play away to Brighton, United, Wolves and Spurs. City must play away to Brighton and Spurs. Liverpool must play away to United, West Ham and Villa. 9 huge games to watch there. City on paper with the easiest run in but they also have the most ground to make up. Arsenal with the toughest run in but they have nice cushion in the good column. We sit top right now but United and Villa in particular are going to be games we have to perform at our best for.

Imagine if we have a 3 way race on the last day. I honestly don't think there has been an era with 3 teams this strong since the Premier League rebranding. All 3 contenders have a legitimate shot at 90+ points. They're that good that if all 3 won the last 9 games in a row people wouldn't even be surprised. In fact the league is so strong that an English team is the favourite for all 3 European competitions. I just hope we can hold on so Klopp goes out on a massive high!

Appreciate this is just a random name and also that Sporting have an issue with us, but if Salah left I'd love us to sign Marcus Edwards as his replacement. More of a creator and a ball carrier than a ruthless goalscorer like Salah, but there really isn't another right winger like our Mo so it's futile trying to come up with a replacement who can do what he does. Edwards is also homegrown and only 24 years old. He took Spurs apart in Europe.

This is purely my personal opinion but I do not believe Thiago or Henderson will leave this summer and nor should they be allowed to. They are extremely proud individuals and both will fully believe they have a part to play going forward despite being 32 and 33 years old respectively. I also don't think Fabinho will leave although I'm less concerned if he does. He is still only 29 though, he's only had 1 bad season, and he and his wife love Liverpool deeply.

As much as the midfield needed rebuilding you can't strip all of the experience and leadership out of the dressing room in one fell swoop. It was a huge impact off the field when Lallana left, and Milner going will be a similar story. It makes little to no sense to rush Hendo and Thiago out of the club at the same time as Milner. Thiago was our best midfielder last season in my opinion and Hendo is our captain. Both are continually credited with helping new/ young players settle, and also driving up the standards.

I don't think it's a given they all stay, but I just don't believe any of them will leave in the end. Midfield is sorted as far as I'm concerned, especially with Trent's new role. Mac, Jones and Dom give us the ability to press properly again, and from the hybrid role Trent has added that additional recovery pace which the midfield lacked, as evidenced by his exceptional ball recovery at the back end of last season (ranked 1st in the league.

I personally would sell Fabinho and sign a new DM so please don't hound me about us needing to do so because I agree. I just don't think it will happen because i can't see Fab wanting to leave. My main point is Thiago and Hendo are key components in the leadership group though and i would not be rushing them out the door for a Saudi pay day.
